NAVI MUMBAI:
NCP chief
Sharad Pawar claimed on Tuesday that he had got to know of former RBI governor
Urjit Patel saying he could not work under the current dispensation. Pawar made the allegations while speaking at a meeting in Kharghar.
"Whether it was Jawaharlal Nehru or Indira Gandhi, institutions were protected. There was never any political interference in RBI.
Narendra Modi regularly interferes in the affairs of RBI," he said. The NCP president pointed out that after former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan's term ended, Modi brought in an expert in Urjit Patel. "He is from Gujarat and was trusted by Modi. But Patel resigned. Pawar further said If Patel had come to a conclusion that he cannot work in RBI, the reason is the policy of interference and assault on the institution.
Pawar also alleged that interference in the judiciary had led to four judges holding a press conference. "Never in India's history have SC judges held a press conference to speak about interference in the judiciary." Slamming the PM for taking credit for the release of IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, Pawar said the officer was released due to the Geneva Convention and international pressure.
