Unable to rectify faulty power bills, says resident

NAVI MUMBAI: Darave resident K P Jobi has been forced to take at least two days’ of leave every months for the last few months to get his inflated

power bills

corrected. He has been making regular rounds of the local office of the power provider, MSEDCL. Jobi is not the only one to face problems with power bills, as several other consumers are also complaining of inflated bills.

“I have been facing mental torture for the last five months. Writing to the local officials to correct the meter reading and inserting the image of my power meter has yielded no results. Every time I approach the officials, I am insulted,” said Jobi, a resident of sector 23, Darave, Seawoods. He also alleged that the problem surfaced from the date a new agency was appointed by MSEDCL to take the meter reading.

“Last month I had received a bill of Rs 15, 000 with a fictitious 1, 200 units which seems to be out of question. This month I got the bill of a mere Rs 160, which is grossly incorrect when my average monthly consumption hovers around 250-300 units. Now I have stopped paying the bill from this month. Let them disconnect the line,” said Jobi.

“This kind of error seems to be rare now. I will look into the matter and

rectify

this. The local officials will be instructed to behave politely with the consumers,” Chandrashekhar Mankar, superintending engineer, MSEDCL told TOI.
