ended in a tragedy on Sunday as two youngsters drowned in the desolate side of the reservoir. Police said the incident happened around 3 pm when Aman Shaikh (19), a class XI student who didn’t know to swim, entered the water. As he started drowning, Saif Ali Naik (22), who had just finished his graduation, jumped into the water to rescue him, but both of them drowned. The bodies were retrieved around 7 pm.


Sources said the group of 10 youths, all related to one another, had trekked around 45minutes to reach the area. A police officer said, “The rescue team had to trek through the forest. Torch lights were used to reach the spot.” Karjat sub-divisional officer Vaishali Pardeshi said, “Monsoon revelers sneak into the dam site through alternative routes. We will review the security cover.
