NEW DELHI: Police in Navi Mumbai have detained the chairman of a housing society in Taloja following an incident where he and several others threatened residents who were celebrating Diwali by lighting up their complex.
The confrontation occurred on Tuesday, leading to a complaint being filed against the chairman under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 79, which addresses acts intended to insult a woman's modesty, as well as sections 352 and 351(2) concerning intentional insults and criminal intimidation.

The chairman and some members of the housing society objected to the celebration, resulting in a heated argument. It is alleged that the chairman and his associates verbally abused the residents and threatened them with severe consequences if they did not cease their celebrations.
The chairman has since been taken into custody as the investigation continues.
