MUMBAI: A 37-year-old tailor was abducted, thrashed, and singed on the private parts by his former employer and three unidentified men, on suspicion that he had stolen a design. The tailor, Mohammad Shabuddin Ansari, lodged a complaint at Bandra police station. It has been transferred to Charkop police station for investigation.
On Wednesday, Ansari was at his workplace in Malwani when he got a phone call from an number not in his contacts.
The person asked if he could stitch clothes for a wedding. When he replied in the affirmative, two men came to pick him up in an autorickshaw to take him to the client. However, en route, one of the men got off from the autorickshaw and someone else boarded in his place. Ansari found this strange and tried to question the men, but they punched him and took away his phone and cash.
According to the FIR, Ansari was taken to a chawl where he was detained in a room. His former employer, Sunil, was present in the room. Ansari was accused of stealing a sherwani design and was thrashed. The accused used a hammer, belt, and bamboo to assault him on his hands and knees. They asked him to arrange for a sum of Rs 1 lakh as compensatory payment for having stolen the sherwani design, else face dire consequences. The FIR also says that he was stripped and singed on the private parts.
On Friday, around 1 am, residents heard his cries for help and freed him from the chawl. Ansari went to Bandra where he met his friends and narrated what had happened. He lodged a police complaint and was hospitalised for the injuries. Ansari said in his statement that he had quit working for Sunil as he allegedly ill-treated and verbally abused his employees. Four persons are wanted in the case.
