Speed corridors planned for Navi Mumbai international airport

Navi Mumbai Internation Airport

(NMIA) will have entry and exit points at both ends. Several speed corridors to the airport will make an octopus-like grip all across Mumbai.

Cidco has planned an interchange at Kalamboli traffic junction and a cloverleaf around 2km away on

NH-4B

that will help those coming from Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Mumbra on the eastern end. Loop roads at Kille junction on Palm Beach road on the western end will help motorists going towards Chembur, the central suburbs, Thane and beyond.

The special purpose vehicle for the project—Mumbai JNPT port road company limited in which JNPT,

NHAI

and Cidco are equity holders will float a tender in March to appoint a technical consultant to suggest the designing of the infrastructure.

Chief general manager Cidco (airport and transport), Soma Vijay Kumar, told TOI on Friday, “We have suggested the infra projects as it would enable smooth and seamless vehicular movement.”

An NHAI official said, “Cidco had suggested in the beginning that the infra projects be taken up after finalising the strategic partner. With the closure of the financial bid and GVK-led MIAL being finalised as the prospective partner, the technical consultant will help design the infrastructure. We have worked on the loop road connectivity at Kille junction, but it can be revisited.’’

NMMC additional commissioner Ankush Chavan said, “As of now, there is no plan for widening Palm Beach Road and we have given an NOC to the SPV to execute the work at Kille junction.’’

Cidco’s plan for better vehicular movement will be the fifth package of the road infra project.

The SPV with JNPT making 51% equity participation, 43% (approx.) by NHAI and 6 % by Cidco is executing the Rs 2,900 crore. As part of the road widening of NH4B, SH54 and Aamra Marg, Cidco will build a flyover connecting the north and south ends of Aamra Marg at Kille junction for seamless movement of vehicles from the airport’s western end to

Uran Phata

on Sion-Panvel road which then goes further to Chembur. Motorists can also go to Thane via

Thane-Belapur road

.

At Kille junction, Cidco has suggested a loop road connecting Aamra Marg to Palm Beach road for those in the city going towards Vashi. The other loop road will be from the Belapur-end to Aamra Marg. An interchange on Aamra Marg will help motorists reach south Mumbai via the coastal road to MTHL. A left turn towards NH4B will take them to the Konkan belt and Uran.

From the right turn of the west-end of the airport on Aamra marg the interchange will go to

Killa junction

As for the eastern end of the airport, the interchange at Kalamboli will ensure seamless entry/exit with the cloverleaf providing the arm to airport. NH 4B also connects the city to Kalyan and Dombivili.
