Shiv Sena leader Vijay Chowgule's nephew was allegedly killed in a hit-and-run on Thane-Belapur Road, early Friday morning.
The victim, Nitesh Pawar, a civil contractor, was on his bike, headed towards Airoli, when an unidentified car hit him and sped away.
"We are trying our best to nab the speeding vehicle involved in the case. We will check the footage of the CCTV camera installed at Mahape junction near the accident spot.
This could give us some leads on the vehicles that crossed the highway at that time," said senior inspector Suresh Bhosale.
Navi Mumbai: In a hit and run case that took place on the Thane-Belapur road near Khainane flyover on Friday after midnight around 1 am, a speeding unidentified vehicle rammed into a motorcyclist due to which he sustained grievous head injuries and was killed on the spot. The victim has been identified as Nitesh Kailash Pawar (31), a resident of Sainath wadi in sector-1, Airoli. He was riding his bike (MH-04,CH-9664) and heading towards his residence when the speeding vehicle hit from behind and sped away. The Turbhe MIDC police have registered a criminal case against the unidentified vehicle driver and booked him under the relevant section of the Motor vehicle Act for rash and negligent driving causing death.
Senior inspector Suresh Bhosale said, " The deceased Nitesh Pawar is a relative of Shiv Sena's Navi Mumbai district president Vijay Chowgule. We are trying our best to nab the speeding vehicle involved in the hit and run case. We shall check the footage of the CCTV camera installed at the Mahape junction ahead of the accident spot which could give us some leads about the suspicious vehicle that crossed the highway during the accident timing.
Shiv Sena leader Vijay Chowgule said, " The deceased Nitesh Pawar is my sister's son, who was a civil contractor. On Thursday night, he had gone to his Turbhe site and was late to return home when the unfortunate incident took place."
