NAVI MUMBAI: Sector 5 in Kharghar node is to become a ‘no hawking and no horn’ zone. A proposal to this effect was approved by the general body of the Panvel City municipal corporation recently. The civic ward committee had already given its green signal earlier.
Sector 5 is an educational hub. Hawkers and honking will no longer be allowed there. A proposal to declare the entire Kharghar node sectors 2 to 36 as ‘no hawking and no horn’ zone came up for approval.
However, it was decided to approve only Sector 5 for the project. “The Kharghar ward committee decided on Sector 5 on a trial basis, before extending it across the node. This sector has the most number of educational institutions and is the best fit for the project,” said Nilesh Baviskar, A ward committee member.
“PCMC has started the process to procure signboards and other items for the ‘no hawking, no horn’ zone in Kharghar,” said Vandana Gulwe, assistant municipal commissioner.
During the general body meeting recently, corporator Leena Garad wanted to know whether RTO permission was obtained prior to approval of the agenda. The PCMC chief
Ganesh Deshmukh said the issue will be taken up with the RTO after the proposal is approved. Accordingly, the proposal was given a green signal.
