NAVI MUMBAI: The civic estate department issued notices to tenants of 134 NMMC properties such as samaj mandirs, STD/PCO kiosks and shops on May 28 to pay up their outstanding dues.
The notices also stated that the properties will be sealed if the dues are not cleared in 15 days. The civic body has to recover an outstanding amount of around Rs 57 lakh from the tenants of the above mentioned properties.
NMMC has rented out around 134 properties and many of them have not paid the rent. “Most of the tenants have not paid rent since two to three years, while there are some who have not paid a year’s rent,” said D Chabukswar, head of the estate department.
He added that they had issued notices earlier but the tenants didn’t respond. “This time, the civic notices have a 15-day deadline to pay the rent or the properties will be sealed,” he said.
He added that NMMC will rent out more properties if the rent is paid on time.
