Power line accident: Man files plaint against NMMC, MSEDCL
NAVI MUMBAI: The son of a woman, who suffered severe head injuries after the porcelain insulator coupling of a high-tension line fell on her in Airoli, has lodged a police complaint and held the concerned MSEDCL and NMMC officials responsible for the accident.
The mother of the complainant, 29-year-old Rajdutt Mahadik, and another woman were injured in the incident that took place in a public garden in Airoli’s sector 4.
The Rabale police have registered an FIR under section 337 of the IPC for causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others.
The incident occurred on August 2 around 6.45pm when the two women were taking a stroll in the NMMC garden.
Suddenly, there was a loud explosion-like sound in the high-tension line above the garden. Due to a short circuit, the high-tension line wire snapped and the heavy pieces of porcelain insulator broke and fell down.
The women panicked and ran out of the garden but the insulators fell on them and caused head and limb injuries to Mahadik ’s mother.
The other woman sustained minor injuries to her hand. Mahadik’s mother was rushed to Indravati hospital in Airoli. As her condition worsened later, she was shifted to super-specialty Fortis hospital in
Mahadik is a MBA graduate and lives in sector 9, Airoli. He lodged the complaint after MSEDCL did not compensate him Rs 6 lakh that he had demanded for paying his mother’s hospital bills.
However, MSEDCL has already paid a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh to the complainant’s mother Mrunal Mahadik (52).
The other woman, Sadhana Tike, who suffered minor bruises was not compensated, the complainant stated.
“I have written to the higher authorities of Maha Transco to pay Rs 6 lakh to meet my mother’s medical expenses as estimated by Fortis hospital at Mulund where she is still undergoing treatment. Till date, the hospital bill has reached Rs 5 lakh. As she is recovering, we expect she will be discharged in another 2 to 3 days. But, till then the total hospital bill would be around Rs 6 lakh. MSEDCL had assured to compensate Rs 6 lakh for clearing her hospital bill but has released only Rs 2.5 lakh, claiming that it was as per their circular,” complainant Rajdutt Mahadik said.
MSEDCL should pay the entire hospital bill as it was their responsibility to maintain the HT line.
The porcelain insulator fell from the high-tension line due to a short circuit and it happens only when the electrical equipment are not maintained regularly, the complainant said.
