Navi Mumbai: Following the death of a 66-year-old ex-army major, after his scooter reportedly bumped into a pothole on the water-logged stretch of road in sector 4 of Kharghar on Friday morning, Panvel civic chief Ganesh Deshmukh has claimed that after inspection of the accident spot, it was found that the victim's scooter had actually bumped into an uneven drainage chamber lid, which had created a depression on the surface of the road similar to a pothole.

The civic chief has directed his staff to inspect all such places in Kharghar along with the Cidco as all drainage chambers have been constructed by Cidco.
PCMC Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh said, “The death of ex-army major Ronald Gomes in the road mishap is indeed an unfortunate incident. Prima facie, it appears like the chamber has some difference in the level. Irrespective of the technical errors in the laying of roads, we will ensure that such an incident does not happen again.TNN
