NAVI MUMBAI: Twenty-four hours after Swastik Patil (21) jumped into Nerul’s DPS lake after he allegedly strangled his 19-year-old girlfriend Bhavika More, there is still no sign of his body. Fishermen had seen Patil jump into the lake and then discovered More’s body in the mangroves nearby on Wednesday.
Satish Kadam, senior inspector of NRI coastal police station, said cops on speedboats navigated the lake to find Patil’s body but in vain. “We have communicated with our counterparts in Thane and Raigad police jurisdictions in case Patil’s body is washed ashore in those areas,” he said.
DCP (Zone 1) Pankaj Dahane said, “Our probe has revealed that the murder suspect worked at a medical store in Panvel. He was in a relationship with More, who was pursuing her graduation. Two months ago, Patil severed ties with her. Recently, he contacted her to resume their relationship but she refused. Hence, he called her for a meeting. Probably following an argument, Patil strangled her with his hands and then jumped into the lake.” DCP Dahane said as the lake flows towards Alibaug district, it is possible that Patil’s body might be washed ashore at Alibaug beach. “Hence, Raigad police are cooperating by keeping a vigil at the shores of all beaches there,” he added.
