NAVI MUMBAI: Buoyed by the success of CCTV surveillance system within NMMC jurisdiction, the Panvel Municipal Council (PMC) has also proposed installation of CCTV cameras in their areas at the cost of Rs 50 lakh.
PMC plans to install 24 cameras in the first phase by March-end next year, and an equal number in the next. The general assembly has given financial approval for this project. Some spots have been identified by PMC to set up the cameras. They include Shivaji Chowk, Uran Naka, Tapal Naka, Savarkar Chowk, Jayabharat Naka, HOC Colony and Wadale Lake.
The CCTV footage will be used for assisting the cops to solve crimes and control traffic violations, from the control room at the Panvel town police station. In a recently held meeting, the cops apprised the civic officials on the need of CCTV cameras. PMC chief officer Mangesh Chithle said that PMC would bear the cost and appoint an agency for the project by March, 2016.
