About half of the work is over and the rest is expected to be completed in the next six weeks and around 1,900 streetlights will be installed in the city.
PMC chief officer Mangesh Chitale said that they expect to save 65% energy by using LED lights. The number of street lights will be reduced from 2,200 to 1,900 and by using a dimmer system from 12-5am, around 3% energy will be saved.
The civic body has signed a five-year contract with Agile, a manufacturer of LED lamps, which will also provide maintenance for the next five years, saving PMC around Rs 40 lakh.
