A 14-year-old boy,
Himanshu Visale won a gold at the US World Open Taekwondo Championship on Monday.
Visale represented India in under-45kg section. He beat USA's Giya Gin Hong to win the top honour.
"I was delighted to have won the gold in America while matching the standard of play of foreigners who are touted to be faster and trained in advanced techniques," said Visale, a student of St Joseph's (CBSE) school, New Panvel.
He also participated in a day-long seminar organized by Olympic standard coaches.
"Visale now carved a niche for himself at the international level and his prospect towards Olympics is getting brighter. I hope he will make it to next Olympics if he continues to perform like this," said his coach Subhash Patil.
