NAVI MUMBAI: NRI police, investigating the death of 27-year-old Vineet Sharma, have found prescription papers from an ayurvedic doctor in his flat which states that he was suffering from depression.
Sharma died after allegedly inhaling carbon monoxide at his rented apartment in CBD on Saturday night. The police will now investigate the supplier of the gas cylinder, as it is sold only to those who possess a mandatory licence such as chemical laboratories and industrial units.
Investigating officer Harshal Ahirrao said, “We have found his medical papers from the apartment where Sharmalived with his two colleagues. He had consulted a doctor from an ayurvedic clinic in sector 19A, APMC. The doctor’s diagnosis mentions ‘depression’ and ayurvedic medicines have also been prescribed. But we are not sure whether he was taking them.”
Dr Shailesh Deshmukh, a specialist working at the APMC ayurvedic centre said, “The patient, Vineet Sharma, had come to our clinic on September 6. He claimed he was suffering from depression due to heavy work load. I am not sure about what was prescribed to Sharma. But we prescribe ayurvedic tonics such as Ashwagandha or Medhawati in similar cases.”
The gas cylinder seized from Sharma’s apartment was purchased in his name from a distributor’s godown in Vashi. A certificate of analysis by the Vadodara-based manufacturer was found on it.
“Sharma was employed with a software company and had no use for carbon monoxide. So he may have bought it to commit suicide,” added API Ahirrao.
