NMMC to rope in yoga experts for free training
Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has decided to rope in yoga experts who, in turn, will impart the training of yoga to the citizens at various locations across the city for their wellbeing while bringing change in lifestyle as a holistic approach towards their overall development under wellness clinic concept. The civic body has shortlisted 23 locations where yoga sessions could be conducted alongside counselling and other wellness therapies, free of cost. Yoga teachers have been invited to apply till June 23 for further selection to carry forward the unique initiative under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM).“This is to make the people stronger with rejuvenated immunity to combat the epidemic. It’s part of our effort to create awareness about yoga and its benefits. The yoga centres will be set up on the lines of ‘Mohalla Clinic’ where health related problems could be resolved,” said Dr Pramod Patil, Medical Health Officer of NMMC.Initially, five yoga teachers will be appointed on an honorarium basis to conduct sessions at different places. Later, the number of yoga experts will be added into the network to reach out to a larger population, said an officer. “The teachers will be given Rs 250 as honorarium per session of yoga training. Once the selection of trainers is done by the end of this month, we can resume training in the first week of July at four to five centres which will later be expanded to other locations. We should have a centre for every 15,000 people,” said Patil.According to NMMC sources, the funding for the programme will be borne by NUHM whereas the civic body will be the monitoring authority to ensure that the campaign is well managed. “The timing of the training, counselling and remedial measures of health related problems will be from 2 pm to 10 pm which has been decided while considering the leisure slot of the residents. The working class group can join the sessions in the evening,” said an official.
