NMMC to plant 20,000 trees in city on July 1
Navi Mumbai: NMMC is set to plant around 20,000 trees on the occasion of Vanamahotsav on July 1, as per directions from the state. The garden department has identified around 35 spots in the city for the trees. The state government had laid out a plan to plant 2 crore trees in Maharashtra. “As per guidelines from the state environment department, we have started preparation for Vanamahotsav. The work for digging pits for the plantations have begun. Besides NGOs, activists and students have taken part in the initiative. Even housing societies can approach the garden department if they want to plant trees in their society,” said Bhalchandra Gawli, superintendent officer, garden department. —Priyanka Dhomse
