Netas hawk views as political mkt opens over razed stalls

Locals Demand Solution, Vendors Against Moving To New Place
NAVI MUMBAI: Residents have nowhere to shop for their daily need since Wednesday as the fruit and vegetable market in sector 9, Vashi was cleared by the civic officials in presence of the cops. Many are blaming the civic chief for clearing the market without providing alternate space to licenced vendors.
Heavy rains made it worse as the few vegetable vendors do not provide enough for the residential areas, said residents.
Even the politicians are against the hurried clearing of the market. “It is a good idea to free the road and footpaths which were illegally occupied. But the civic body dismantled the market suddenly without providing an alternative,’’ said Kishore Patkar, Shiv Sena corporator, who represents the ward. He added that several vendors, who have licences, came to meet him on Saturday.
Vendors were instructed to move to the hawker’s zone created adjacent to Vashi bus depot but have refused to relocate.
The market was also a shopping hub for residents of nearby nodes like Koparkhairane and Ghansoli.
