NAVI MUMBAI: A 57-year-old woman residing in Kamothe has registered a FIR of cheating and

police

station, against her son-in-law residing in Kandivali by alleging that he has mortgaged her 140 gm of gold worth Rs 10.56 lakh, without her consent, and obtained Rs 6 lakh gold loan from a bank. She has also alleged that he had withdrawn Rs 57,000 cash using her ATM card after making her reveal her ATM pin.

As per the FIR registered on January 11, the complainant Manda Wagh and her married daughter Kavita had taken a locker facility at Central Bank of India, CBD branch, where Wagh had kept her 270 gm gold ornaments.

In February last year, Wagh's son-in-law asked her for

financial help

for starting a hotel business. Hence, Wagh mortgaged her 130 gm gold jewellery with a bank and gave him Rs 4 lakh by bank transfer.

Thereafter, in November last year, as Wagh's daughter Kavita was admitted to a hospital for her delivery, Kavita's husband Nilesh Wadekar had taken Wagh's ATM card and made her share the ATM Pin and he withdrew Rs 57,000 allegedly without her consent.

After delivery, Kavita passed away and for her demise ritual, Wagh had gone to meet Wadekar at his Kandivali residence, where Wagh went to Kavita's room and opened her cupboard to see her clothes as she was missing her daughter after her death. As Wagh opened an adjacent small cupboard, she saw the empty boxes of her gold jewellery that she had kept in the bank locker which was being operated by Kavita on Wagh's behalf.

Hence, Wagh questioned Wadekar, who gave evasive reply and argued with Wagh. After a heated argument, Wadekar revealed that he had taken Kavita into confidence and he removed Wagh's 140 gm gold from the bank locker and by mortgaging Wagh's gold, he took Rs 6 lakh gold loan from a bank in Kandivali.

As Wagh told Wadekar to release her mortgaged gold and return them to her, Wadekar allegedly abused and threatened her. Since, Wadekar did not return Wagh's gold for two months, she registered a FIR against him at CBD police station as Wadekar had taken her gold from the locker of the bank in CBD.

Anil Patil, senior inspector of CBD said, "The accused Nilesh Wadekar has not been arrested yet."
