Navi Mumbai shocker: Drunk businessman dies after setting flat on fire following quarrel with wife

NAVI MUMBAI: A 54-yearold businessman, N C Jacob, under the influence of alcohol set his rented flat on fire after a quarrel with his wife, and was found dead on Friday in New Panvel.

The fire brigade broke open the flat in Bethal Cottage and found his body in the kitchen. Jacob’s wife was away at the police station to lodge a complaint against him.

Smita Dhakne, senior inspector of Khandeshwar, said, “Jacob had not suffered burn injuries. He had gone to the kitchen where he might have suffocated due to fire smoke.


The post mortem report is awaited to ascertain his cause of death”. Jacob’s wife told police that her husband was an alcoholic and always picked up a quarrel with her whenever he came home drunk.

On Friday morning, Jacob had fought with her and assaulted her. He repeatedly kept calling on her mobile while she was alway. As she did not respond, he set the flat on fire, said police.
