NAVI MUMBAI: Keeping up with the Christmas spirit of giving and compassionate donations, city based social worker, Rajesh Singh of Ganga Sagar Foundation, has gifted useful things like a wheel-chair, walkers, special toilet seat and clothes to the New Panvel based Social and Evangelical Association for Love (SEAL) which rescues homeless persons.

Singh, who is also a member of the Navi Mumbai-Bihar association, said: ``We have been following the work done by SEAL in rescuing homeless people from the streets, and also trying to reunite them with their families. Hence, during this Christmas, we decided to donate a few things which will come in handy for the shelter inmates at New Panvel.''

Among the gifts given to SEAL, the wheel-chair was earlier used by Singh's father who passed away earlier this year.
The founder of SEAL, Pastor K M Philip, said: ``We are thankful to Ganga Sagar group and countless other well-wishers who help us in carrying out the task of rescuing and reuniting homeless persons. Some of the rescue cases are highly critical as many of these victims are also mentally unstable, so they are unable to take care of themselves.''

Philip further informed of a recent homeless case of a young woman who was only identified as `Sukanya' from Bihar. ``We were surprised to find out that there was a deep maggot-infested skull injury on Sukanya, despite being sent from Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar to our shelter home. Her head was bandaged, but when we tried to clean up, there were maggots falling out of her wound.''

Singh, who is also a part of the Bihar association in the city, said that they will also try to find out the original village or hometown of the rescued woman, Sukanya, in Bihar state in order to reunite her with the family.

Meanwhile, for the Xmas celebrations, SEAL Ashram has also prepared a big 150 kg plum cake, which will be distributed to residents in the nearby villages like Vangani, Nere, Ambivali among others.

``At SEAL, we believe in Rescunite (rescue and reunite) so that the homeless persons can go back to their families. In this regard, we have also consulted several experts and also government officials in order to streamline the process of finding their families and addresses through the police data bases and other other tech based systems,'' said pastor Philip.
