Navi Mumbai: Fire breaks out in Shushrusha hospital; firefighters douse blaze, no casualties

A fire erupted in the basement of Shushrusha Hospital in Nerul on Monday, prompting the swift evacuation of all patients by hospital staff, relatives, and the Vashi fire brigade. The fire, originating from stationary materials, caused smoke to spread, leading to the transfer of ICU patients to Panvel and the accommodation of others at a nearby Gurudwara.

NAVI MUMBAI: A fire broke out in the basement of Shushrusha hospital in sector -6, Nerul along the Palm Beach road on Monday around 12.30 pm. All the patients were immediately evacuated by the hospital staff, relatives of the patients and Vashi fire brigade team. No casualty has been reported.Purushottam Jadhav, fire officer at Vashi said, "The stationary materials kept in the basement of the hospital building caught fire and the fire smoke spread to the upper floors causing suffocation for the admitted patients. The Vashi fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire within 5 minutes, simultaneously helping the hospital staff to evaluate the patients. While five patients admitted in the ICU have been shifted to Shushrusha hospital in Panvel, the remaining patients have been accomodated at the nearby Gurudwara."
