NAVI MUMBAI: The Panvel taluka police have rescued a 13-year-old girl, who was coerced to elope by a 22-year-old youth, by arresting him within 48 hours, before he could escape with the minor girl by train to
Assam on Tuesday morning.
The cops used technical expertise and traced the accused to Tondre village in Taloja node, where the accused youth was hiding with the minor girl at a chawl house.
They were supposed to escape by a train scheduled for Tuesday morning to Guwahati, Assam.
Ravindra Daundkar, senior police inspector of Panvel taluka police said, "After receiving a complaint of the minor girl's abduction from Padaghe village by an accused on Sunday evening, we formed two police teams for the search operation. The abducted girl's mobile Call Data Record (CDR) was obtained and it was noticed that a suspect Sanjeep Bardoloi, who hails from Assam, had repeatedly called on her mobile on the day she was kidnapped. One team was sent to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Kurla Railway Station, Panvel, Thane, and Kalyan railway stations from where long-distance trains departed to Guwahati, Assam, to check the CCTV camera footage of the stations. While the other team was given a task to check the CDR details and obtain details from a network of informers."
The officer said that after receiving the CDR of the accused Sanjeep Bardoloi, we compiled data and found a common contact person, who was detained for inquiry. "He led us to the hideout of Bardoloi in Tondre village, Taloja, from where we nabbed Bardoloi on Tuesday early morning and rescued the minor girl. The girl revealed that Bardoloi was supposed to take her to Guwahati by train on Tuesday morning, but we foiled his attempt," Daundkar said.
