Navi Mumbai: 1.4 hectare released in Borivli creek for mangroves

NAVI MUMBAI: Mumbai's suburban collector has issued an order to transfer 1.4 hectare at Erangal village in

Borivli creek

to the forest department for compensatory afforestation of

mangroves

to be uprooted to construct a third bridge over

Vashi creek

.

The move comes after MSRDC, the executing agency, set to rest city NGO NatConnect's demand that the mangroves be relocated close to the project site by explaning that land was in short supply in Vashi.

L&T, the contractor, has said it is ready to start work on October 1. The chief minister had forwarded the NGO's query to the forest department and then to the public works department. PWD in turn sent it to MSRDC.
