NAVI MUMBAI: The Kharghar police is leaving no stone unturned to track down the conman from Mumbai,
Fahim Khan (33), who allegedly conned a Delhi widow of gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh. The accused, who claimed to be a software engineer on a matrimonal website, married the widow on video conferencing, in the presence of a ‘maulvi’.
Under the pretext of taking her for a trip to Kharghar mall, he sped away in his car, in which the woman had kept her luggage containing the ornaments and cash.
The cops have taken the conman’s images from the CCTV cameras at the Kharghar mall and the Panchgani hotel but they are not clear.
A police officer from the investigating team said, “The Kharghar police team had gone to Panchgani, where the accused had stayed on December 11.”
He added that they obtained a photocopy of the accused’s driving licence from the hotel manager. “When we checked his Jogeshwari residential address, we found that he has given false address proof to the RTO,” he said.
He also said that they have also sought details of documents he had submitted when he applied for the driving licence. “We have even obtained the registration number of the car in which he had brought the woman and her minor son to the Panchgani hotel.”
The cops claimed that they have some vital clues — the accused’s driving licence has the vehicle registration number starting with MH-01 but the car he drove at the mall had the registration number beginning MH-02. “We have asked for documents of the original owner of the car used in the crime and vehicle transfer papers, if any,” said the cop.
He added that one of the conman’s mobile numbers is still active.
“The complainant, after returning to Delhi, gave us a mobile number from which he had called her. We have asked the service provider to provide that SIM card’s call data records. It will enable us to zero in on any persons with whom he is in regular contact and we can trap the accused through them,” the cop added.
