PANVEL: Himanshu Visale (15) from Panvel won a silver medal at the 8th Scottish International Taekwondo Championship in Glasgow on Monday.
Visale, a class IX student of St Joseph's High School (
CBSE), New Panvel, participated in the under-41kg and beat boys from England, Iceland and Scotland to lose to a South Korean schoolboy in the finals.
Visale has won tournaments in Israel and South Korea in the past.
"My aim is to participate in 2014 Asian Games and win medals for the country as well," he said.
Panvel: Panvel lad Himanshu Visale (15) returned with a silver medal at the 8th Scottish International Taekwondo Championship while participating in cadet group, held at Glasgow, Scotland recently. Visale, a class IX student of St Joseph's High school (CBSE board), New Panvel, was at it again in the international arena to prove his kicking mettle and he came up successful with a silver lining amid tough challenge. Champion fighters from across the globe threw their hats into the competition ring for top spots. He was accompanied by his coach Subhash Patil. Patil had also officiated the tournament as a referee.
Playing in under-41kg category Visale defeated players from Great Britain, Iceland and Scotland to cruise into final. But his winning campaign was derailed by a top player from South Korea in the final where he had to be content with silver medal. Prior to his Scotland tour, Visale had been to South Korea and Israel and clinched medals too besides his consistent performance at national shows. "My aim is to participate in 2014 Asian Games and win medals for the country as well," said an ecstatic Visale.
