Three hurt in hit-and-run involving Mercedes

Navi Mumbai: In a hit-and-run incident on the Sion-Panvel highway at Kharghar on Aug 15, a Mercedes heading towards Mumbai hit a pedestrian who was jaywalking on the highway. After being hit by the car, the pedestrian fell on a scooty travelling along the highway, causing it to skid. The husband-wife duo on the scooty sustained minor injuries to their limbs. Investigating officer API Ramchandra Yamgar said that the pedestrian sustained severe head injuries. He was admitted to MGM Hospital, Kamothe.
The injured pedestrian has been identified as Devdutt (full name not known). The injured scooty rider, identified as Sadam Shaikh, a resident of Govandi, and his injured wife did not lodge a complaint, stating that they did not want to get involved in a police case. Hence, taking suo motu cognizance, traffic constable Yuvraj Dive (32) registered an FIR against the accused driver of the Mercedes car. —George Mendonca
