NAVI MUMBAI: The crackdown on crackers has not only resulted in less noise but also reduced pollution as doctors this year saw fewer cases of patients coming with complaints of chest infections, bad throats and allergies.

Even the incidences of asthma aggravating among patients has reduced drastically this year.

“There is definitely a decrease in the number of patients this year even though the effects will be felt only by the end of this month,” said Dr Sangeeta Checker, pulmunologist at Wockhardt Hospital.

After Diwali, people normally complain from chest infection, throat pain, asthma, chronic cough, pneumonia and breathing problems,” Dr Checker said.

ENT specialist Dr Vishal Tyagi also said the numbers of people suffering due to crackers have reduced. “There is so much awareness and people have becone more responsible and sensitive towards noise and air pollution,” he said.
