Navi Mumbai: Open spaces, roadsides, grounds and amenities plots across the expanse of Kharghar’s Ove Camp area have been encroached upon by dumping of massive construction debris due to rampant construction activities, killing the grown up trees leading to depletion of green cover. The irony is that the debris mafia dared to dump debris and garbage just below the notice board put up by Cidco warning against it, and also saying that offenders will face
legal action.
Residents alleged that civic contractors are taking undue advantage and have started targeting these areas to dump debris and other waste, while creating unhygienic conditions.
Joggers have complained of foul odour they have to face in the morning and in the evening. Authorities have miserably failed to prevent the debris and land mafia from encroaching the open plots and roadsides. “Authorities are least bothered to safeguard the open spaces and roadsides from being dumped. In the absence of coercive action, the land and debris mafia have started dumping blatantly and officials have remained mute spectators,” said a local resident
Ramesh Jadhav.
The dumping sites have become the breeding place of mosquitoes besides air
pollution and health hazards. Questions are being raised that this can happen at Cidco’s ambitious Central Park project area which is close to the new dumping site. Authorities turned a blind eye in lieu of initiating action to arrest such illegal activity despite several complaints lodged by residents. Truckloads of debris have been dumped on the roadsides and open grounds here.
When asked, a Cidco official said, “I have no clue about such dumping activity in this region. However, I will personally visit the site and pursue the matter with concerned officials.”The encroachment obstructs the movement of vehicles and pedestrians and creates a stench.Residents feel that their open spaces have been usurped by rampant dumping of debris and domestic waste. Non-action from authorities only added to their woes. Residents are astonished to find truckloads of construction debris garbage being dumped along the roadsides and open spaces in this node.
