NAVI MUMBAI: Satara police on Tuesday booked a couple for using Aadhaar cards of as many as 30 persons to fradulently claim Ladki Bahin scheme benefits. The accused have been taken into police custody.
The district authorities, after a thorough check, has detected and confirmed the misuse of Aadhaar numbers of different people. A former corporator of the Panvel City Municipal Corporation, Nilesh Baviskar, had also alerted the authorities after finding that the Aadhaar number of Kharghar Sector 16 resident, Pooja Mahamuni (27), has been used and approved as beneficiary of the scheme.
A three-member committee, comprising district programme officers Rohini Dhavale, district women and child development officer Vijay Taware and Bank of Maharashtra lead bank manager Nitin Talpewas, was formed to inquire into the allegations.
So far, 28 applications were traced in the name of one Pratiksha Jadhav (22) wherein different Aadhaar card numbers were used but one single bank account number of Mandeshi Mahila Sahakari Bank, Mayani branch, Satara, has been used.
It was also learnt that only Rs 3,000 had been deposited in the said bank account on Aug 29. The bank accounts linked to these Aadhaar numbers are being checked by the authorities.
Jadhav had sourced different Aadhar numbers from Google (an online search engine) and submitted the applications using them. She had taken the assistance of her husband Ganesh Ghadge.
A senior police official requesting anonymity, said, “We found that the husband was angry after his wife’s application was partially rejected. Instead of making the required changes, he decided to take revenge. He collected Aadhaar cards of his relatives and some others using internet searches to make 30 applications for direct benefit transfer to the account opened at Mayani’s bank in his wife’s name.
