N Ramaswami inspected the unkempt state of the Vashi railway complex and lack of cleanliness in areas surrounding the building towards Raghuleela Mall. The garbage littered around the

station

complex has been a common grievance among citizens from this area. Ramaswami also visited the Belapur railway station complex and numerous public toilets in and around Turbhe railway station premises.

“Ward offices have been asked to take steps to spruce up the premises because these two stations get a decent footfall. The NMMC chief has instructed that the area should be cleaned regularly and more dust bins must be installed at the Belapuur station,” said an official present during the inspections. The Vashi ward office has been instructed to close the unauthorised access created from outside the station complex to the platform.

Regarding the dumping of garbage, Vashi ward officer Mahendrasingh Tokke said, “Being a vacant land the area opposite to Raghu Leela mall was being misused for garbage dumping. We intend to develop a green zone and have had talks with the forest department as well.” —Sameera Kapoor Munshi
