City players win 7 medals at zonal taekwondo show

As many as seven city athletes returned with medals, including two gold, two silver and three bronze, from the recently held CBSE Zonal Taekwondo Championship, organized by CBSE-Delhi under the aegis of Taekwondo Federation of India at O P Jindal School, Raigharh, Chattisgharh.

NAVI MUMBAI: As many as seven city athletes returned with medals, including two gold, two silver and three bronze, from the recently held CBSE Zonal Taekwondo Championship, organized by CBSE-Delhi under the aegis of Taekwondo Federation of India at O P Jindal School, Raigharh, Chattisgharh. As many as 798 taekwondo players from nine states participated in the tournament.

The gold medalists were Unnati Dubey (under-14) from J H Ambani School of Rasayani and Ravi Nag (under-19) of Jaipuriar School, Sanpada. The silver medal winners included Aayushi Bhakta (under-19) and Kabir Bhakta (under-14), both from New Horizon Public School, New Panvel. Besides them, Sayali Kuchekar (under-14) of New Horizon Public School, Omkar Patil (under-14) of Pillai's International School, Rasayani and Raj Mali (under-14) also from Pillai's International School won bronze medals.
Both Dubey and Nag have consolidated their berths to take part in the CBSE nationals to be held at Hyderabad from December 15-18. While others made their debut at the zonal competition, Kabir Bhakta is a well-known fighter in the ring.Last year, he had won a gold medal in his maiden attempt at Jaipur which helped him take part in the CBSE nationals held in Ranchi, Jharkhand where he added a silver medal to his kitty. "I hope to win a gold medal this time at the nationals," said Bhakta.
