NAVI MUMBAI: City swimmer Prabhat Koli (18) has successfully crossed Molokai Channel in Hawaii, US, one of the toughest channels among the seven oceans recognised by World Open Water Swimming Association.
Prabhat swam from Kepuhi Beach to Alan Davis Beach of Oahu Island, crossing 26 miles in 17 hours and 14 minutes. This was his 3rd international channel attempt after completing English Channel and Catalina Channel last year.
“Prabhat swam through choppy waters of Pacific ocean where only 45 swimmers have succeeded since 1969. The weather was so windy that the kayak assisting swimmers flipped on Prabhat,” said his father Raju Koli.
His trainer
Kishore Patil said, “I am excited that my pupil has achieved one more milestone to improve his profile. He is one of the youngest swimmers to have crossed the prestigious English Channel followed by Catalina Channel,” Patil said.
