Navi Mumbai: Live monitoring at the CCTV command centre at the police commissioner’s office in Belapur has cracked six cases, including one where a passenger left a bag containing Rs 2 lakh in an auto, said cops.
On February 12, around 11.15am, a Thane resident, Shantilal Jain (33) had boarded an auto from Thane to Airoli but forgot his bag when he reached his destination.
Cops checked the CCTV footage at Digha village and spotted the auto at 11:44am. The driver was traced from the registration number and the bag was recovered.
“The analysis at the CCTV command centre plays a vital role in the scrutiny process. The footage played a vital role even in an elderly couple robbery and assault case in Vashi on January 10 as we could zero-in on the car in which the accused had arrived,” said Pradeep Kannulu, ACP (wireless).
Few other cases detected by the CCTV command centre were also listed by the officer. “On January 9, around 11pm, a gang of robbers broke into Nilesh Medical and General Store in sector 4, Sanpada. They were nabbed after we tracked their escape route from the CCTV grabs,” he said.
CCTV footage also helped solve the murder of a 21-year-old woman, Nagma Qureshi, whose body was found near Sarsole creek. On January 5, a Ghatkopar woman, Asha Gowda, had forgotten her cell phone worth Rs 35,000 in a car while she was travelling from Pune to Mumbai. “ The car was traced from its registration number and the driver was detained,” he said, adding, they also solved an accident case at Shilpata from the footage.
