Animal lovers make use of recycled bottles, trays as water bowls, feeders
Navi Mumbai: Animal lovers have been going the extra mile to ensure that stray and birds can quench their thirst in the gruelling summer. Many have been recycling
“Even simple plastic bowls help, it doesn’t have to be something fancy,” said Vashi resident Sharda Diwekar.
Another animal lover, Anamika Roy, also from Vashi, said, “We just have to ensure that the bowls should be cleaned every day,” she added. Not just pet shops and supermarkets, even online shopping sites have quite a variety for animal lovers. “Prices are good too and it saves you the trouble of looking for products.”
All are not looking to buy commercially made and branded feeders. “We have been using old mineral water bottles as water feeders. And old plastic containers for food. In any case, they are recycled so why not use them for the birds,” said Nerul animal lover Abhishek Doshi.
“Ceramic feeders for water and food are ideal since they are easy to clean. Even plastic cylinders work well as they have perches for birds to sit on. For birds, a similar design for water also works well. But for animals, they need something larger which can be placed on ground level. Large trays and bowls work best,” said Janvi Gupta, a feeder and rescuer.
