NAVI MUMBAI: At least 95 tourists onboard the Matheran to Neral toy train had a narrow escape on Saturday evening when it derailed ahead of Juma Patti railway station.
The train derailment led to cancellation of the train from Neral to Matheran. Fares of the passengers for both trains were refunded. This is the third derailment of this year. The toy train had left Matheran station around 4pm towards Neral.
After about a one-and-a-half hour journey the toy train derailed. All those on board alighted from the train. The train was supposed to reach Juma Patti around 5pm. Taxi operators reached out to passengers to drop them to Neral station. Another engine was sent with staff from the Neral workshop to attend to the derailed train. The train was brought back on the track around 9pm. It reached Neral around 10.30pm.
