8 city power lifters off to nationals

Navi Mumbai: As many as eight elite power lifters from the satellite city have been included in the state contingent to participate in the Senior National Power Lifting Championship in different weight categories.
The national will begin from Monday in Jalna district.
Those who have booked their berths include Akshay Kumbhar, Rakesh Patil (67.5 kg), Sujit Sawant (56 kg), Jaswinder Singh (82.5 kg), Parvinder Singh Saini (80kg), Ajay Gawade (90 kg), Abhiraj Chauhan (100 kg), Rahul Singh (110 kg).
Their selection came through district and subsequent state tournaments and selection trials that were held recently.
“We hope to put in our best and perform well enough to win a medal or two at the prestigious national-level competition which will also decide our fate for international fixtures,” said a confident Parvinder Singh, team leader and state strongman title-holder.
