A seven-foot -long crocodile came out of the flooded Kal river in Mangaon taluka in Raigad and entered a residential society on Thursday around 11.30pm.

The residents panicked upon seeing the giant lizard and alerted the forest officials. The officials took help from the members of Sahayadri NGO working for animal rescue. They managed to trap the crocodile. The reptile was later released into its natural habitat. Meanwhile, a team of Thane Forest Department arrested a man for allegedly possessing an endangered crocodile hatchling.

The accused has been identified as James Paul, a resident of Rabale. A team of forest officials raided the spot and rescued the hatchling. Paul he was booked and subsequently arrested.
