NAVI MUMBAI: The Panvel city police have booked two women and one man for embezzling Rs 10.49 lakh from the travel agency, where the women worked, on Friday. “The owner of a travel agency, located in Old Panvel, accused Priyanka Joshi (24), Deepika Thalkar (25) and her husband Kunal Thalkar (26) of embezzling the money collected for ticket bookings,” said police inspector Praful Bhingarde.
He added that in October 2013, the two women were employed with a reputed travel agency. The owner, Smita Joshi, had given them the responsibility of booking air and railway tickets through Akbar Travels, whose distributorship was with the said agency.
In February 2014, the two accused quit their jobs. When people, who had booked the tickets, complained to the owner a couple of months ago, she checked the accounts and learnt that Rs 10.49 lakh had been deposited in some other account.
“The duo had booked the tickets through another travel agency and deposited the money in another bank account They used her husband’s email id for the transactions. Joshi asked them to return the money but they did not do so. She then filed a complaint on Friday,” said Bhingarde. He added that they have not arrested anyone yet.
