NAVI MUMBAI: Two bike-borne assailants fired six rounds at an APMC garbage contractor near D-Mart in Sanpada, Navi Mumbai on Friday morning, leaving him injured.

The victim, identified as Rajaram Thoke (48), sustained bullet injuries to his abdomen, shoulder, and leg.

The pillion rider fired six bullets, four of which struck Thoke.

According to DCP (Zone 1) Pankaj Dahane, Thoke, who holds a garbage collection and disposal contract for the APMC market in Turbhe, was attacked while visiting the NMMC ward office.

Sanpada police rushed to the scene and recovered a fired bullet shell from the road. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to trace the assailants, who fled immediately after the attack.

Police are investigating the motive behind the shooting.
