NAVI MUMBAI: Two partners of a jewellery store in Ulwe have been booked by NRI coastal police for duping five customers of their gold ornaments collectively valued at Rs 16 lakh.
The matter came to light after an Ulwe resident Fatima Momin (30) who was duped of Rs 1.6 lakh worth of gold ornaments, filed a complaint against the duo.
The accused have been identified as Vikas Jain and Mahavir Jain,who are partners at Swarna Shilpi Jewellery store in Sai Krupa building in sector 20, Ulwe.
As per the FIR, she had visited the store in November 2022, to buy a gold mangalsutra for her sister-in-law’s daughter. There she met Vikas and Mahavir. Momin purchased 30.7gm gold mangalsutra after selling her 28gm gold to the jewellers. The jewellers delivered the mangalsutra in December 2022. Thereafter, the accused contacted Momin and asked for the mangalsutra claiming that it doesn’t have a hallmark stamp, and they will get it done. She handed over the mangalsutra in February, after which they started avoiding her. In March, the jewellers shut their store and became incommunicado. Momin later learned that four other customers were also cheated in a similar manner.
There other victims are Tushar Pawar who was duped of Rs9.8lakh, Ajay Chaudhary of Rs2lakh, Sakshi Singh and Sanjana Singh of Rs 2.7lakh, and Shahana Rajguru of Rs50,000.
