NASHIK: A 35-year-old woman, Shobha Sanjay Patil, a resident of the Ganesh Prasad Society at Shivshakti Chowk in Shivaji Nagar, was murdered by Raju Kulthe. Shobha Patil had registered two non-cognisable offences against Kulthe earlier.
The victim was heading to work early on Wednesday when the accused picked up an argument with her, a few metres away from her home.
Kulthe stabbed Patil with a knife and fled the scene as she collapsed.
Officials of the Gangapur police station rushed to the spot on receiving information and took Patil to the Civil Hospital, where she was proclaimed dead. Deputy commissioner Zone-1, Avinash Bargal said that the Gangapur police have registered the crime against Kulthe and formed two squads to nab him.
Bargal said that Patil had recorded two non-cognisable offence cases -- one each with the rural police and the city police - against Kulthe.
According to a complaint registered on September 9, 2014, Patil had alleged that Kulthe, who was the next-door neighbour of her parents at Javulke Phata, Dindori taluka, had taken Rs 40,000 from her family. Kulthe had called up Patil's parents and claimed that Patil and her husband owed him Rs 3 lakh and that he wanted the sum of money back at the earliest, failing which the couple would "face dire consequences".
"The last complaint was registered with the city police where the victim had claimed that the accused had called up the mobile phone of her parents and warned them of dire consequences. Since the accused changed his address, we were unable to take prohibitory action against him," Bargal said.
