NASHIK: The Upnagar police are hoping to get custody of the five accused arrested by the Thane police in connection with the Mannapurram gold heist in a couple of days.
Senior police inspector of the Upnagar police station, K R Popere said that the police custody of the five arrested would end on Monday, following which they would be seeking custody with the court's permission.
The Thane police arrested Kartik Devendra (22), Jeevan Singh and Rupesh Ranpise, all residents of Dombivli, from Dombivli, while the two other accused, Rajdatta Bhaurao Rane (32) and Chadrashekhar Bhaurao Rane (29), both residents of Apurva building, Mahatma Phule Road, Dombivali (West) were picked up in Nashik from Paradise Apartments, Serene Meadows Colony, Gangapur Road, jointly by the Thane and the Nashik police.
The Upnagar police said that the two accused arrested from Nashik have been taken into custody by the Thane police. Senior officials informed that they also seized two toy guns, three knives, a weighing machine and the keys of the strong room of the Manappuram Finance Limited branch office on Nashik Road.
According to reports, the five accused, three of whom were dressed in police uniforms, had escaped with 15kg of gold and Rs 3lakh in cash from the Manappuram office on October 1, 2013.
The Upnagar police said that the sequence of events at the time of the robbery would be clear once they get the custody of the five accused.
