NASHIK: A truck driver and a porter died after the heavy vehicle came in contact with the overhead electrical wire in the Davachwadi village of Niphad taluka.

According to Pimpalgaon Baswant police, the incident took place at 7am on Thursday when the truck driver was taking the vehicle to a farm to dump manure he had brought from Mumbai.

The deceased men have been identified as Parasnath Pal, the 63-year-old driver from Belapur, and Vijay Shinde (38) from Akola. The police claimed the road in the village is a common road. Trucks often ply here to lift agricultural produce.

“On Thursday, the truck, loaded with manure from Mumbai, was on its way to a nearby farm. The driver had spotted the overhead power line and tried to steer the vehicle to avoid it. However, a small section of an iron rod came in contact with the wire. Both Pal and Shinde were electrocuted on the spot,” said the police officials.

In all, there were three men in the truck. The third person — Pappu Yadav — managed to jump out of the truck and was saved. MSEDCL officials visited the spot to assess the issue. Officials said the electrical inspector will visit the spot and then conclude if there was any problem with the MSEDCL system. Based on this report the MSEDCL would take further action.
