NASHIK: The Nahik rural police have managed to establish the identity of the charred body found inside the burnt car in Ghoti area.
The body, according to police, is of 37-year-old ex-serviceman Sandeep Gunjal — who is also the owner of the car. Superintendent of police (Nashik rural) Sachin Patil, while talking to TOI, said silver filling in a tooth of the deceased and the belt buckle recovered from the car helped them establish the victim’s identity.

“The identification of the victim was a tough task. But the forensic and police teams found these two vital leads that were shown to the bereaved family and they immediately recognised them,” Patil said.
Ghoti police on Tuesday afternoon had found the charred body inside the car parked on a desolate road leading to Bhavali dam. Later, the police found out that the car owner was an ex-serviceman who worked as a security manager for the Samruddhi Highway project.
“The forensic experts have examined the remains of the charred body and did not find any injury mark. Moreover, Gunjal was alive when his body caught fire. This means Gunjal was not attacked by anyone while he was on his way home after work on Monday,” Patil said.
“We are investigating how the vehicle caught fire and why Gunjal did not step out of the vehicle. We are seeking feedback from the family members and colleagues,” Patil added.
