Thief jumps into river to evade cops

Nashik: In an attempt to evade arrest, a burglar(21) jumped into the river in the Gangawadi area and swam to the opposite bank, only to find another team of the police waiting for him.
The burglar had stolen jewellery from a Lord Ganapati temple at Raviwar Karanja.
Senior PI Sajan Sonawane of the Sarkarwada police station said, the accused was presented in the court, which remanded him to police custody for three days on Sunday. The burglar identified as Nihal Yadav, a resident of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
The incident took place at around 3am on Sunday. When the security guard spotted Yadav on the temple premises and asked him to go away, Yadav started beating him with an iron rod. After the guard fell down, Yadav broke the windowpane of the temple and stole the silver ornaments.
Sonawane said that some people heard the security guard cry for help called the police,who reached the spot within minutes and started chasing Yadav.
