NASHIK: While introducing an innovative change in the process of selecting theatre activist for its annual awards, the Nashik centre of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad has invited suggestions and votes from theatre lovers to finalize the recipients of the three coveted annual awards given to a playwright, an actor and a technician.
“The Natya parishad Nashik centre confers ‘V V Shirwadkar award for a playwright, Prof Vasant Kanetkar Award for a theatre actor/actress and Baburao Sawant Rangakarmi award for a technician every year. Earlier, the expert committee used to select the winners of these awards. However, from this year, we have decided to invite public opinion to finalise the names awardees,” said Prof Ravindra Kadam, President of the Natya Parishad Nashik Centre.
The expert committee includes Natya Parishad Nashik Centre president Prof Ravindra Kadam, Executive Secretary Sunil Dhage, Ravindra Dhawale, Dr Aniruddha Dharmadhikari, Vivek Garud and Deepak Karanjikar.
Playwrights Anand Mhasvekar, Girish Joshi, Jayant Pawar, Shafaat Khan, Prashant Dalvi, and Suresh Khare have been shortlisted for the awards in their category while actors Mohan Agashe, Lalan Sarang, Faiyyaz, Ashok Saraf, Neena Kulkarni and Nana Patekar have been nominated for award in acting category. Producer Nimal Kirsloskar, Narendra Date, Prakash Nannaware and Sushama Abhyankar have been shortlisted for the category of technicians in theatre.
Members of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad have been requested to send their opinion to the official address of the Natya Parishad at Nashik in February. The awards will be declared by February 28 and the award function will be held in March 2016.
