NASHIK: Municipal commissioner Radhakrishna
Game has directed the civic officials to take measures for reducing black spots in the city.
Game’s instructions came during a meeting of traffic mobility cell of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) held on Thursday.
During the meeting, NGO Nashik First submitted a list of over 17 black spots to the municipal commissioner, demanding immediate measures to prevent accidents.
Game instructed the officials concerned to take necessary measures such as installing speed breakers to control the speed of the vehicles and thus prevent accidents on these black spots as identified by the NGO.
Civic officials said that they will examine the list of black spots furnished by the NGO and take necessary measures.
“We have already identified some black spots with the help of the traffic police department. But, the NGO has also furnished a list of some black spots in the city where mishap often occurs. We will take their list into consideration,” said an NMC official.
“Recently, we conducted a survey in the city to find out black spots where frequent accidents occur. We have identified black spots at around 17 locations across six divisions of the municipal corporation,” said Abhay Kulkarni, chairman of Nashik First.
“During the meeting, we highlighted the need for preventive measures at black spots in the city and sought immediate measures from civic officials,” said Kulkarni.
Some of the black spots identified by the NGO include Datta Mandir square in Nashik Road, Carbon Naka in Satpur, Tarwala Nagar in Panchavati, near Ashoka Hospital in Vadalagaon, Tapovan Corner and the stretch near Hotel Green View on Trimbak Road.
A discussion on strengthening of the public transport system in the city also took place during the meeting. The NMC is going to take over the city bus service from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).
NMC has six divisions — Panchavati, New Nashik, Satpur, Nashik Road, Nashik East and Nashik West.
