Nashik: District guardian minister Chhagan

Bhujbal

on Saturday said Sanjay Raut had a narrow escape from losing in the

Rajya Sabha

elections, the result of which was declared in the wee hours of Saturday.
Speaking to reporters at Nashik, Bhujbal said the voting procedure for Rajya Sabha is very confusing and the voters can show their votes only to their representatives, but not to others. The smallest mistake can also make a huge difference.
“We had a critical situation at the time of counting. Raut’s seat was in a dangerous spot and

Sanjay Pawar

would have won the seat. Small mistakes count a lot and hence, one has to be very careful while voting. Their party leaders will see what has to be done,” said Bhujbal.
Bhujbal said (MLA Suhas) Kande’s vote was termed as invalid and that was probably because of some small mistakes.
“During our meeting with the MLAs of Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and even our party (NCP), we had given them clear instructions not to go overboard at any cost. Show your votes only to your party representative, do not make any signs on the ballot paper. If these are not followed it could turn out to be a costly affair,” said Bhujbal
Reacting to NCP chief Sharad Pawar praising Devendra Fadnavis for getting their third-person elected, Bhujbal said the strategy deployed by the party in ensuring their candidates were safely home in the first round itself was a major achievement.
“The total count of votes received by BJP was not more than 122 indicating one or two MLAs helped the party, but surely we were short in planning strategies for the safe election of our candidates,” he said.
Bhujbal also said Pawar’s praising of Fadnavis was a lesson for the MVA members. “What Pawar meant is that we should bury our differences within MVA, take independents into confidence, never hurt anybody as these are the times when they can take steps unpleasant to our positions,” he said.
He also underlined that there was a need to be very cautious in the forthcoming MLC elections as the BJP has fielded six candidates instead of four that were as per the numbers of MLAs.
“We will have to ensure that six of our candidates get elected. We will have to be very careful till the elections,” said Bhujbal.
